An expert from the agency’s Human Capital Subdirectorate offered valuable guidance on how to obtain financial support during a workshop at the Universidad Católica del Maule.
There are no magic formulas in the academic world, but some details – albeit small ones – can make an amazing difference when it comes to obtaining a scholarship. “This is what we call ‘application engineering’, which consists of paying attention, for example, to the legality and admissibility conditions of the documents or noticing that an advanced electronic signature is not the same as a simple one. Not noticing these details leads to the most recurrent errors,” said Alan Price, analyst of the Human Capital Sub-Directorate of the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID), who gave a workshop to students at the Universidad Católica del Maule.
“We see that there is a predominant award from the Metropolitan Region and that is why we seek to promote an improvement in the applications from the regions and that the resources are distributed equitably in the territories,” he said.
ANID maintains open calls for financial support for masters and doctoral programs. The doctorate scholarship, which will receive applications until November 15, provides resources to Chileans and foreigners, with or without permanent residence in the country, for a period of four years. In turn, the Master’s scholarship is aimed at Chilean and foreign students with definitive permanence in the country and its application period will be extended until December 5.
“Quite a lot of people came to the meeting and that is a good indicator. The objective was to facilitate the processes and learn about the procedure and critical points. The awarding of funding by the State is a recognition of the intellectual capacity of the students and a benefit for them, but also a seal of quality for us,” said UCM’s Director of Postgraduate Studies, Marcelo Castillo, whose unit organized the event.
For Pedro Barrios, a student of the Doctorate in Engineering of the campus, beneficiary of the grant, the key consists in “dedicating time to writing the application, because it is a very competitive instance”.
“The scholarship has worked very well for me because it has allowed me to be independent and devote full time to my doctorate,” he emphasized.
