Pedro Severino-González, professor of the Department of Economics and Administration at the Universidad Católica del Maule (UCM), emphasized the need to train professionals with values centered on human dignity.
Social responsibility, as a principle that mobilizes people to be aware of the impact their decisions have on society, is gaining ground at UCM. “The spirit of service is a hallmark that our university promotes through actions that include the values of social responsibility,” said Pedro Severino-González, an academic from the Department of Economics and Administration at Universidad Católica del Maule, who recently shared these reflections at a congress held in Italy.
“Young university students find themselves in an increasingly uncertain, volatile and changing society. Being socially responsible through people-centered management is fundamental for the strengthening of human dignity, justice and democracy,” he added.
The also vice-president of the Maule Zonal College of Engineers also indicated that social responsibility should be a generic competence of all graduates and graduates of the campus.
“It is important that different actors at UCM can gradually install social responsibility in the language and practice, which could motivate the early recognition that involvement with the needs of the territory is part of the professional practice. In the last five years, this has been evidenced through concrete practices and empirical studies that demonstrate the leadership of our university in our country,” he said.
Held in Rome, the IX World Forum on Territorial Social Responsibility “Environments of Peace and Peaceful Environments”, organized by a UNESCO observatory and the non-profit association AMKA, focused on a more just, peaceful and sustainable global development, without discrimination.
