The Universidad Católica del Maule awarded degree certificates to 37 graduates of its medical specialties program, emphasizing the importance of human values in the healthcare system.
Nearly 300 specialist doctors have been trained by the Universidad Católica del Maule (UCM), through a scholarship program that the institution has been promoting since 2012, together with the Health Service and the Regional Government. The institution was close to the milestone, after graduating 37 new specialists, corresponding to the ninth and tenth promotions of the Postgraduate School and Medical Specialties of its School of Medicine.
“It is a very good number of doctors in the different specialties, in tune with the needs of the region,” said the rector of the house of studies, Dr. Claudio Rojas.
UCM was the first university to subscribe to the “Maule Scholarships” program, aimed at financing the training of specialists and sub-specialists to improve care in the healthcare network.
Dr. Marcelo Castillo, Director of Postgraduate Studies at UCM, said that the graduates will contribute to the strengthening of the health system, affected by a shortage of specialists and a record number of patients on waiting lists.
“This is a challenge that we take on with great responsibility. We are proud to be able to deliver to our community, not only regionally but also nationally, a new generation of specialists that will reduce the gaps”, he emphasized.
The graduates obtained diplomas in the specialties of Adult Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Orthopedics and Traumatology, Anesthesiology and Resuscitation, General Pediatrics, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine and General Surgery, as well as in the subspecialties of Medical Oncology and Cardiology, always with the seal of solidarity and love for others that the institution promotes.
“I feel very happy doing my job with a spirit of service. The hallmark of the university is to be clinically very good, relevant, but with a human vision that understands the need of patients and works for them. It is a very, very strong brand of the university,” said Dr. Alex Ortiz, who graduated as a specialist in Family Medicine.
