The Colmena repository is now available, providing offers access to over 500 open access publications. Pablo Muñoz, project manager, unveiled the platform.
The implementation and operation of a repository for the publication of open access research is one of the main products and services generated by the Open Science project “Colmena” at the Universidad Católica del Maule (UCM).
This publication platform https://repositorioinstitucional.ucm.cl/ was launched within the framework of the public account given by this project, which has been running since last year and is supported by the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID) of the Ministry of Science, Knowledge, Technology and Innovation.
In this regard, the Director of Research and of the Colmena project, Dr. Ranjeeva Ranjan, highlighted the importance of the repository of publications, indicating that “in this way the principles of Open Science become a reality, which are to work collaboratively, share publications and democratize access to scientific knowledge generated at UCM”.
He also highlighted the work developed with this initiative that implies a cultural change and that allows to point out the path of Open Science and the importance of continuing to carry out collaborative work that contributes to improve the quality of life of people and the development of communities and their environments.
To date, the Colmena repository has published more than 500 research papers, generated by UCM academics and researchers in a wide range of fields, which are available for review and download not only for the university community, but also for society as a whole.
Pablo Muñoz, manager of the Colmena project, pointed out that “in the repository it is also possible to find research data and information on the processes in general, which are available to be reviewed and used, with which we take a substantial step forward in Open Science”.
Another of the initiatives achieved by Colmena is the creation of a Problem Bank, where through an articulation with other public and private actors, needs and opportunities to develop research that will have a positive impact on the communities were identified.
Orietta Dennett, UCM’s Director of Communications, highlighted the value of scientific dissemination, saying that “today we see that there is a group of ambassadors, training, and also a repository, and it is important to make this known so that this momentum is not lost and is maintained as part of an institutional culture”.
“It is important to inform, educate and make known the advances and improvements in science and for that the role of science communicators is vital,” she emphasized.
