The Innovation, Development and Technology Transfer Department of the Universidad Católica del Maule signed an agreement with one of the leading universities in Spain.
Maule’s Catholic universities and Valencia signed an agreement aimed at carrying out joint actions in innovation and technology transfer.
«We had signed commitments with other universities, technology centers, companies and SOFOFA HUB, but this is the first collaboration agreement in applied research and innovation with the Catholic University of Valencia. It is an effort that we have been making for years and now it has come to fruition with the help of our Liaison Department,» said Fabiola Loyola, UCM’s Director of Innovation, Development and Technology Transfer.
As the third most populated metropolis in Spain, after Madrid and Barcelona, the Valencian university has five campuses and nine different departments.
«For us, networking is very important, which is why in the technological tour we made to Spain in 2023 we held meetings with this university where the current situation of UCM in applied research and innovation issues was presented. Our area of common interest is biotechnology. An area they have strengths in. This agreement means that we, as a university, can participate as collaborators in projects that obtain financing that is directed at European universities», the director pointed out.
Loyola also explained the contribution that her unit, which has made the institution a reference for intellectual property patenting, would make.
«They are interested in us being able to share good practices on how we have been implementing different innovation and technology transfer activities. The Catholic University of Valencia has a transfer and licensing office, which in Europe are called OTRI and only cover a part of innovation management, so our way of working, our model and mechanisms, seemed very interesting to them,» she added.
In April, the DIDTT expects to sign another agreement with a different Spanish university at the San Miguel campus.
