The oldest scientific publication of the Universidad Católica del Maule has entered a catalog of world-renowned journals.
Mariana Lazzaro, director of the journal «UCMaule», has described the incorporation of the publication to the select catalog of the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) as a «remarkable achievement.» The DOAJ is composed of open-access scientific and academic editions that meet demanding quality standards.»
The Ph.D. in Linguistics explained that the indexing responded to a methodical planning.
«We began the process of indexing two years ago. In 2022, we successfully indexed in the Latindex Catalog. Our next goal was to be included in SciELO. However, SciELO introduced a new requirement for journals to be indexed in DOAJ. Consequently, we had to make adjustments to the journal and thus the application was successful. With this approval, we will manage the entry to SciELO Chile,» she announced.
For researchers and academics, publishing in an indexed journal is synonymous with high impact and visibility, since their articles will appear in a journal that has been listed in a worldwide database. One of the largest networks is the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), which offers a consolidated collection of scientific literature in electronic format.
«Indexing puts the journal on a very different plane, because it facilitates a leap in importance and is a recognition of our tradition. With this latest approval, the university also adds a point in its efforts towards internationalization,» said the director, who also coordinates the Social Sciences Nucleus of the Center for Research and Advanced Studies of Maule (CIEAM, in Spanish), which belongs to UCM.
UCMaule is a biannual scientific publication that provides a space for critical and interdisciplinary reflection on the humanities, focusing on human dignity, science, ethics, culture, the arts and the historical, literary and cultural heritage of Maule, the country and the world.
With more than 30 years of life, it is the oldest magazine of the campus. «In recent years, UCMaule has positioned itself as one of the most indexed journals among UCM publications. Being the only journal under the Academic Vice-Rectory, this achievement is remarkable and institutional,» emphasized Dr. Lazzaro.
The editor of the publication, which will publish its 65th volume next December, is Jaime Huincahue, CIEAM researcher and PhD in Didactics of Mathematics.
