An executive from the National Agency for Research and Development, (ANID, in Spanish), offered recommendations to increase the chances of success when submitting a project during a talk with UCM academics and students.
«The first thing is to talk to those who are directly affected by the problem,” began Francisco Vargas, executive of the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID, in Spanish) during his presentation at Universidad Católica del Maule on the possibilities of success when applying to scholarships.
The conference, organized by the UCM‘s Direction of Innovation, Development, and Technology Transfer, was attended by researchers, students, and entrepreneurs from the region.
«Go where the problem hurts because that will allow you to gauge, define, quantify and know the extent to which you can provide an appropriate solution. Another recommendation is to form multidisciplinary teams because sometimes we tend to work only with likeminded individuals,» said the expert.
Throughout the year, ANID opens around sixty programs and competitions to promote research in Chile. «We are very interested in reaching out to the regions because, unfortunately, the largest shares of applications and project awards continue to be in the Metropolitan and Biobío regions, which receive between 50 and 60 percent of the allocations. Through these talks we are trying to motivate applications from other regions,» said Vargas.
The director of Innovation, Fabiola Loyola, celebrated the event, which was led by the vice-rector for Research and Postgraduate Studies of the campus, Hernán Maureira. «The goal was to increase the knowledge of our researchers and students regarding the lines and opportunities they have to develop research and, of course, we hope that this will increase the number of projects at our university,» she said.
