The Universidad Católica del Maule launches its first distance learning postgraduate program to strengthen the analytical and methodological capacity of professionals interested in public management at the local, national, and international levels.
With global access from mobile devices, tablets or desktop computers, the Master in Public Management of the Universidad Católica del Maule (UCM) expects to receive its first graduating class this semester.
«Since the pandemic, we are clear that the telematic modality is absolutely possible and that high-quality training in virtual format can be delivered. We generated a complete and dynamic platform, which is constantly updated, because knowledge advances rapidly,» said the program director, Christian Quinteros.
The PhD in Territorial Planning and Sustainable Development explained that the postgraduate program was born from the need to improve competencies among decision-makers in an area that has ranked second to last in regional competitiveness in the last ten years, according to the Undersecretariat of Regional and Administrative Development (SUBDERE).
«To address this gap in human capital, the master’s degree is not only aimed at public officials working in municipalities or regional governments, for example, but also at people in the private sector with a vocation for the public sector,» he said.
After four semesters, with classes held twice a week, the program aims to contribute to processes of change in institutional structures, functions, norms and values, with a territorial approach based on the concept of environmental, economic and social sustainability, always from the human and ethical perspective that distinguishes the university.
«There are processes that are transversal in Latin America and worldwide, such as the modernization of the State that we have been experiencing since the 1990s. This modernization emphasizes on principles such as probity and transparency, and higher standards of citizen participation in public administration decisions. We are facing a different society, where the State continues to play a leading role but requires greater capacities from all actors, both private and public,» said Quinteros.
The Master’s Degree in Public Management is one of the 20 postgraduate programs that grant this academic degree at UCM. More information on requirements, academic staff and application dates can be found at vrip.ucm.cl/postgrados.
