The decision of the National Accreditation Commission makes the program of the School of Health Sciences of the Maule campus the only master’s degree of its kind certified for five years in the region.
The National Accreditation Commission (CNA, in Spanish) certified the quality of the Master’s Degree in Nursing of the Universidad Católica del Maule (UCM) for a period of five years.
The decision, informed by the institution to the rector of the campus Claudio Rojas, was adopted unanimously by the members of the commission.
For Karina Vilches, director of Postgraduate Studies at the university, the accreditation «ratifies the institutional commitment to offer quality programs, in line with the requirements of the CNA and the standards we set for ourselves, to ensure a permanent culture of excellence.»
The certification of the master’s degree, which lasts four semesters, will be extended until 2028 in its two mentions: Care Management and Nursing Education.
«For our faculty and for the Department of Nursing it is a source of pride to have this accreditation, which is a seal of quality in training and allows students to qualify for ANID scholarships, which contribute to the development of advanced human capital. All our postgraduate programs are accredited, or we are trying to accredit them,» said Paula Ceballos, dean of the UCM School of Health Sciences, which teaches the program.
Accreditation corresponds to an external evaluation process to which higher education institutions are obliged to submit.
«We have a quality academic body, which has been of great support for the accreditation and for the students to graduate in the corresponding times, with topics that favor their professional and disciplinary development. The master’s degree has also been very well evaluated by the students and that is a plus,» said Margarita Poblete, director of the program.
«We set a precedent, because there are no masters like this one accredited for five years in the region; only in La Araucanía and another in Santiago. We are ecstatic because it has been a long effort, in conjunction with the administrative staff, especially those who work in the quality unit,» she said.
