A measurement of high-impact scientific production has ranked Dr. Carlos Celis-Morales in prominent positions both globally and nationally.
As one of the most influential scientists in the world in the area of physical activity sciences, an academic from the Universidad Católica del Maule was ranked by the bibliographic platform “Elsevier”.
Dr. Carlos Celis-Morales, based in the United Kingdom, is a reference in the study of the role of lifestyle habits, including physical activity and diet, in the development of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, dementia and cancer. To date, he has published more than 400 peer-reviewed articles and his work has been presented at numerous international conferences.
“Within the 100,000 most cited scientists appears the Universidad Católica del Maule linked to my name, occupying position 28,153 worldwide and position 18 nationally. This is very positive for the institution,” said the collaborator of the Faculty of Education Sciences of the campus and researcher of the School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Health of the University of Glasgow.
Elsevier measures high-impact scientific production based on the citations received by researchers from all disciplines. Celis-Morales, who co-led a pan-European personalized nutrition trial, entitled “Food4Me,” from Newcastle University’s Human Nutrition Research Centre, is not the only UCM academic to enter the prestigious measurement. Drs. Finbarr Horgan and Alessio Avenanti are also among the most cited.
Knowledge with impact
“The inclusion of our academics in world-renowned rankings evidences the commitment of Universidad Católica del Maule to the generation of relevant, high-impact knowledge. This recognition reinforces our mission to address local problems with a global perspective, providing innovative solutions that improve people’s quality of life. It is a clear example of how the research we promote at UCM transcends borders in key areas for the development of our society,” said the institution’s Director of Research, Dr. Ranjeeva Ranjan.
The words of the authority were reinforced by the manager of Scientometrics of the Vice Rector’s Office for Research and Graduate Studies of the campus, Viviana Garrido, who highlighted the relevance of UCM within the global scientific community. “Dr. Celis is a reference in the field of physical activity sciences, Dr. Horgan stands out in the natural and environmental sciences, with emphasis on entomology and ecology, and Dr. Avenanti has made valuable contributions in the field of neuroscience. From the perspective of scientometrics, this achievement is a clear indicator of the quality of the research we promote,” she said.
