The Maule campus was the higher education institution with the most projects benefiting at the national level, after the Universidad Católica de Valparaíso.
Eight projects of the Universidad Católica del Maule (UCM) will receive resources from the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID, in Spanish) to consolidate alliances outside Chile.
The initiatives, to be be financed through the «Fomento a la Vinculación Internacional» (FOVI) call, position the campus as the institution with the highest number of awards in the country, surpassed only by the Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, which obtained the approval of nine projects. At the regional level, UCM was the educational institution with the most initiatives benefiting.
«It is excellent news to have such a high number of projects awarded and in such diverse areas of knowledge. These funds will allow us to show and connect the first level science that we do in our university with research centers and researchers of excellence from all over the world», highlighted the director of Research of the campus, PhD. Liliana Zúñiga.
The authority emphasized the importance of promoting collaborative networks beyond national borders. Such networks play a significant role in strengthening the accreditation process in this field, where the promotion of internationalization and networking were detected as an opportunity for improvement. This shows that efforts are heading in the right direction.»
For the general director of Vinculación, Jorge Burgos, these projects will contribute to building a better future for Maule. «The ANID resolution enables us to streghten our actions and collaboration with the Maule territory, to the extent that we can connect with other realities at a global level, learn from processes already underway or join efforts to address problems and challenges in a collaborative manner. We are very pleased with the awarding of these projects,» he said.
This year, the call favored 80 initiatives throughout the country. At UCM, the beneficiary researchers are Dr. Daniel Bustos, Dr. Helena Román, Dr. Ruber Hernández, Dr. Ingrid Carvacho, Dr. Alejandro Prada, Dr. Antonio Cabrera, Dr. Boris Lucero and Dr. Ranjeeva Ranjan. Adittionally, the university will participate as a partner institution in three other projects.
