As part of the Erasmus+ KA 171 project, the academic gave seminars and made the final adjustments to her book to be published in 2024.
Last November, Dr. Mariana Lazzaro Salazar, coordinator of the Social Sciences Nucleus of the Centro de Investigación de Estudios Avanzados del Maule (CIEAM), made a stay at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Malaga (UMA) in the framework of the Erasmus+ KA 171 project that she coordinates together with Dr. Miriam Seghiri of the UMA, Spain.
«The stay had several academic objectives,» comments Dr. Lazzaro. «First of all, to give seminars to undergraduate and graduate students, academics and researchers that would serve as training and thematic deepening in the translation and interpretation of healthcare communication, especially in the doctor-patient relationship. We also worked on generating a corpus of texts in Spain and Chile (both in Spanish and English) in the area of public health. Additionally, we are working together with Dr. Seghiri in the formulation of projects for the year 2024.»
Another purpose of the stay was to make the final adjustments to the book entitled “INTERPRETAMÉRICA: Interpretación de conferencias del español de Chile” co-authored by both professors together with the PhD thesis student in Consortium Education at UCM (Belén Valdés) and academics Dr. Andrew Philominraj and Dr. Enrique Mundaca, both from UCM.
According to Dr. Lazzaro, «the book will be published by a prestigious Spanish publisher and will be launched in early 2024. This text can be used in practical interpreting classes, and its purpose is to familiarize translation and interpreting students with the variety of Chilean Spanish and its culture».
«I must add that one of the most remarkable aspects of the stay was the possibility of working together with the doctoral student Belén Valdés, who is doing her international co-tutelage internship at UMA and is directed by both professors (Dr. Seghiri and myself),» said Dr. Lazzaro.
Belén Valdés Villalobos is a student of the Doctorate in Education in Consortium (UCM) and is spending six months at the UMA, in the context of an international co-tutorship for the double academic degree. Dr. Mariana Lazzaro-Salazar (UCM) and Dr. Miriam Seghiri (UMA), who together are developing the international linkage project Erasmus+ KA 171.
During the stay, the student has collaborated with the Chair of Didactics in Spanish Language exposing her doctoral research project to the academic and student community of the UMA. The purpose of these activities was to present the neuroeducational pedagogical proposal and the methodological framework that guide her doctoral research.
In addition, during the month of December the doctoral student will present at the II International Congress of Neuropedagogy in the city of Jaen, Spain. In this activity, she will present the main results of her research entitled «Teachers’ perceptions on neuroeducational principles for the development of reading comprehension in Chile».
In this regard, the student points out that, for her as a future doctor in education, «having the opportunity to discuss my research results in international academic spaces has deeply nurtured my professional and personal development. In addition, to mobilize future collaborations around the neuroeducational theoretical discipline that I am researching», reflected Belén Valdés.
Finally, it is important to note that the student has had the opportunity to participate in recreational activities organized by the ‘UMA International HUB’, which is an office under the Vice-Rectorate for Mobility and International Cooperation. Belén says that «these activities have allowed me to build, extend and strengthen international relations with students from other countries».
