During the last months of 2022, the Comisión Nacional de Acreditación (CNA, by its initials in Spanish) delivered its tenth quality certificate to the Postgraduate Department of the Universidad Católica del Maule. The Master in Child and Youth Mental Health of the campus was reaccredited for three years.
The director of Postgraduate Department of the Universidad Católica del Maule (UCM), PhD. Karina Vilches, described the recently completed 2022 as a “successful year”, given the excellent performance of the institution before the National Accreditation Commission in the last twelve months.
“We are extremely happy with this successful ending year. We have achieved the accreditation and reaccreditation of six programs, and we are waiting for other results,» said the authority, whose unit already has ten doctorates and master’s degrees validated by the CNA.
“On this path towards excellence that the UCM chose, we are going to continue working on improving our processes and postgraduate training to do them with the highest possible quality. The challenge that awaits is to comply with our strategic development plan that aims to accredit 100 percent of the programs by 2024. That is our navigation chart,” asserted the also PhD. in Engineering Sciences.
Just in 2022, the evaluation commission certified the quality of six UCM postgraduate courses, the most recent validation being the Master in Child and Adolescent Mental Health.
“I am grateful to deans, program directors, academics, researchers, faculty professionals, centers, and other directorates, whose role is essential for advising on continuous improvement. In addition, I am proud of our students, who are our visible faces abroad, and for whom we do our best. Certainly, following our mission as a university, with a service-oriented, interdisciplinary, and highly applied education, based on problems rather than on the construction of knowledge in itself,” pointed out Vilches.
A novel bet
According to the director of the Master’s degree in Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Gerardo Chandía, the CNA’s decision «reveals a good job» with a novel bet.
“This is a unique master’s degree in the south-central zone, of a professional and non-academic nature, so the student is given skills to reinforce their knowledge in the area and to carry out an intervention leading to an academic degree. It makes us contribute with interventions at a high level in the communities where we work,» he indicated.
The certification of the evaluation commission corresponds to the third accreditation of the program and lasts for three years. The other postgraduate degrees validated in 2022 are the doctorates in Applied Mathematical Modeling and Mathematics Didactics and the master’s degrees in Ethics and Citizenship Education, Special Education and Psychopedagogy, and Didactics of Experimental Sciences.
It is important to mention that in the same week and at the undergraduate level, it was received the decree on the accreditation for a maximum period of seven years of the School of Special Education of the Faculty of Education Sciences of the Universidad Católica del Maule (UCM).
